In 1986, Kill Devil Hills Life Saving Station, also known as Life Saving Station #13, was tediously moved from its original location to its current location in Corolla. Built in 1878, it operated as an active Life Saving Station until 1933. Kill Devil Hills Life Saving Station now serves as a site for a collection of artifacts and exhibits that tell the StationтАЩs story. Visitors can view the building’s exterior at any time, but Kill Devil Hills Life Saving Station is open on a limited schedule.
Stroll the quaint streets of Historic Corolla Village, where time seems to stand still. Each historic building, though now occupied by modern merchants, carries its own unique story.
Several food and drink options are conveniently available in Historic Corolla Village, some housed in historic buildings. Grab your morning coffee at The Kind Cup, refuel with an acai bowl at Juice Jar or with a hearty lunch at Corolla Village BBQ, and relax with a cold beverage at The Beer Garden after your day of exploring.
As the centerpiece of Historic Corolla Park, the beautifully restored Whalehead Mansion overlooks the Currituck Sound. Book a tour of the fascinating 1920s mansion or simply explore the exterior and grounds. Over the years, Whalehead has been rumored to be haunted.
Across the lawn from the Whalehead Mansion is the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education. Wander through the sporting heritage exhibits and check out the vintage decoys.
This unique museum features several restored boats that have shaped Currituck maritime history. Currituck Maritime Museum features hands-on exhibits, making it a family-friendly experience. The impressive playground next door adds a fun element to the day.
