Coffee spots that you need to try!
From early-morning beach days to afternoon iced coffee runs, this summer we made our way to some of the best coffee spots around the Outer Banks. We tried local favorites, found a few new go-tos, and discovered plenty of places worth adding to your next OBX itinerary.
Whether youтАЩre looking for a cozy caf├й, a quick coffee before the beach, a good matcha, or somewhere to grab a pastry and stay awhile, these are some of our top coffee spots to try on the Outer Banks.
HereтАЩs a recap of where we stopped this summer:
We kicked off our summer coffee stops at Sea Level Coffee + Kitchen, a favorite in South Nags Head that offers much more than your typical coffee run. Along with barista-quality coffee and espresso drinks, Sea Level serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and craft cocktails, making it an easy place to spend a little extra time in the morning. Whether youтАЩre grabbing an iced coffee before heading to the beach or sitting down for breakfast with friends, the laid-back atmosphere makes it a great start to an OBX day.
If youтАЩre staying in the Nags Head area, add Sea Level to your morning plans. Their menu has something for everyone, and the location makes it especially convenient for grabbing coffee and breakfast before spending the day by the water.
Next up is Morning View Coffee House & Roastery, a must-try for anyone who really appreciates a good cup of coffee. Their beans are roasted in-house, with options ranging from drip coffee and cold brew to pour-overs and seasonal favorites. ThereтАЩs something about starting your morning with freshly roasted coffee that makes this spot stand out from your everyday coffee stop.
Located in Nags Head, Morning View is a great place to grab a cup before heading out for a day of exploring. Whether youтАЩre a dedicated coffee person or simply looking for a relaxed local spot to start your morning, itтАЩs worth adding to your list.
Located in Historic Corolla Village, The Kind Cup is one of those places that makes it easy to slow down and enjoy your morning. The shop serves freshly roasted coffee while also showcasing artwork from local artists throughout the space. That combination makes it feel like more than just a place to grab your morning caffeine; itтАЩs also a fun stop while youтАЩre exploring Corolla Village.
Grab a coffee, browse the local artwork, and take your time exploring the surrounding shops. If youтАЩre spending the day in Corolla, The Kind Cup is an easy addition to your itinerary and a great way to experience a little more of the local community.
Banana Dog Cafe brings a fun and creative take to the Outer Banks coffee scene. This mobile coffee shop in Corolla serves Italian-inspired coffee along with espresso drinks and signature creations that you wonтАЩt necessarily find at your typical coffee shop. Their drinks are just as fun as their name, making it a memorable stop during a day of exploring.
One of the favorites to look out for is the Dixie Girl, made with espresso, banana milk, cinnamon, and toffee syrup. Whether you stick with a classic coffee or try one of their signature drinks, Banana Dog is a great option when you want to switch up your usual coffee order.
If freshly roasted coffee is what youтАЩre after, Shore Coffee Roasters should definitely be on your list. Located in Southern Shores, Shore roasts its coffee in small batches right here on the Outer Banks. Along with specialty coffee, you can find breakfast, fresh-baked goods, and seasonal specials, making it an easy spot to turn a quick coffee stop into a full morning.
We especially love that Shore gives you the experience of a local roastery while still feeling casual and welcoming. Stop in for a fresh cup, grab something to eat, and then head out to enjoy the rest of your OBX day.
Located in downtown Manteo, Charis Coffee Company is a coffee spot with a purpose. The shop is built around its тАЬCoffee With A CauseтАЭ mission, with a portion of its profits going toward organizations working to make a positive impact locally and beyond. So while youтАЩre grabbing your morning coffee, youтАЩre also supporting a business that is committed to giving back.
Beyond its mission, Charis is a great place to add to a day spent exploring Manteo. Grab a coffee, walk around downtown, and make a morning of it. ItтАЩs a good reminder that some of the best vacation stops are the ones that let you experience the local community along the way.
AshleyтАЩs Espresso Parlour in Kill Devil Hills has a little bit of everything we love about a local coffee shop. They roast their coffee in-house and pair it with pastries, local art, gifts, and a relaxed, eclectic atmosphere. ItтАЩs the kind of place where you can grab a coffee to go or find a spot to hang out and enjoy your morning.
If youтАЩre looking for something beyond a standard coffee chain, AshleyтАЩs is definitely one to try. The combination of house-roasted coffee, local artwork, and its laid-back atmosphere gives it a personality that feels uniquely Outer Banks.
For something a little different, keep an eye out for Sunrise Social Club, a coffee and matcha trailer that pops up around the Outer Banks. With its colorful setup and menu of coffee and matcha drinks, itтАЩs a fun option when youтАЩre exploring local markets or looking for something new to try.
Because itтАЩs a mobile coffee spot, where you can find Sunrise Social Club can vary, which is part of the fun. Follow along to see where theyтАЩre popping up during your visit, and make a stop when you get the chance. ItтАЩs a great example of the growing local coffee scene here on the OBX.
Last but certainly not least is The Den Coffee Co., a Nags Head favorite built around the idea that coffee can be about more than just the drink itself. With thoughtfully sourced coffee, fresh pastries, and a welcoming atmosphere, The Den is a place where you can slow down, catch up with friends, or simply enjoy a quiet morning before heading to the beach.
Its convenient Nags Head location also makes it an easy stop during a vacation day. Grab a coffee and pastry on your way to the beach, or take a little time to sit and enjoy the morning. If youтАЩre looking for a local coffee shop that feels connected to the community, The Den is one to add to your list.
