what to do in the outer banks in june - ghost crab

Nocturnal Nature

You’ve been at the beach all day and the sun is starting to set, but maybe you’re not quite ready to leave. We’ve got one great reason for y’all to stay. — Ghost crabbing! Ghost crabs are aptly named for their ability to blend into the sand and for their nocturnal habits. A fun activity for the whole family, ghost crab hunting only requires a flashlight and a bit of patience. Although we call it “hunting,” ghost crabbing is simply standing still and watching as the tiny creatures emerge from their holes along the shoreline. If you’re new to ghost crabbing and would like some guidance, consider a ghost crab tour with Ghost Crab Quest. All equipment is provided for each tour and everyone in your group will love the fun ghost crab facts you learn from the knowledgeable guides. For more beach “finding” ideas, take a look at our Guide to Beachcombing.
