We’ve made it to June, we did it y’all! That glorious time of the year when the days are long, the sun is out, and the ocean water is warm, around 75°. The average high temperature on the Outer Banks in June is 83° and the average low temperature is 69° – downright perfect summer weather. Perhaps best of all, family vacations are in full swing! While we know the beach is likely to be #1 on your vacation to-do list, we can’t help but gush over all the fun activities OBX has to offer this month! Dare Day Dockside

June 6th, 2026 | Time TBD | Wanchese Marina on Roanoke Island

Carrying on the tradition of Downtown Manteo’s Dare Day, this waterside festival promises fun for all ages on the fishing docks in Wanchese.  

Rogallo Kite Festival

June 12th & 13th, 2026 | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm | Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head

Join Kitty Hawk Kites for the 44th Annual Rogallo Kite Festival to celebrate NASA scientist and inventor of the flexible wing, Francis Rogallo, and his many accomplishments. The event will feature a sky full of kites and activities for the whole family!

Corolla Seaglass & Coastal Art Show

June 16th & 17th, 2026 | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm | Whalehead in Historic Corolla

Explore the world of seaglass and coastal art as you immerse yourself in the history and eclectic artistry of unique coastal treasures. Shopping, live music, food, and more will be available.

Family Fun Times at Dowdy Park

June 30th, 2026 | 9:00 am – 10:30 am | Dowdy Park in Nags Head

This free, patriotic-themed gathering will include activities in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. A variety of activities and crafts for children will be available.

A Tee-Rific Time

As you pass waterfalls, pirate ships, and dinosaurs, you may notice a theme along the Outer Banks. — We LOVE mini golf! This family-friendly pastime is a great way to switch things up during your vacation while spending quality time together. With exciting courses in Corolla, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head, you’re never far from fun! OBX even has an indoor golf simulator option for rainy days. Although geared towards older kids and adults, Turf’s Up is a unique sports experience providing hours of entertainment. 

Prefer to tee up on a disc golf course? Head out to Casey R. Logan Disc Golf Course in Kill Devil Hills. Featuring amateur and professional fairways situated under live oaks and tall pine trees, it’s worth a visit!

Nocturnal Nature

You’ve been at the beach all day and the sun is starting to set, but maybe you’re not quite ready to leave. We’ve got one great reason for y’all to stay. — Ghost crabbing! Ghost crabs are aptly named for their ability to blend into the sand and for their nocturnal habits. A fun activity for the whole family, ghost crab hunting only requires a flashlight and a bit of patience. Although we call it “hunting,” ghost crabbing is simply standing still and watching as the tiny creatures emerge from their holes along the shoreline. If you’re new to ghost crabbing and would like some guidance, consider a ghost crab tour with Ghost Crab Quest. All equipment is provided for each tour and everyone in your group will love the fun ghost crab facts you learn from the knowledgeable guides. America’s First Mystery

This must-see production is back for another season! Celebrating the history of the first English colony on Roanoke Island, The Lost Colony is the longest-running outdoor symphonic drama in the entire nation. The production runs during summer evenings at Waterside Theatre, an outdoor soundfront theater on Roanoke Island. A few years ago, we joined Director Jeff Whiting for a behind-the-scenes look at The Lost Colony.

Namaste At The Beach

Didn’t think you could be any more relaxed on your OBX vacation? Try becoming one with nature by way of a yoga class! With weekly classes across the Outer Banks, we love to start our mornings stretching and breathing in the fresh ocean air. There are several places to do yoga on the Outer Banks,  and the following seasonal outdoor yoga classes are open to all skill levels and free! *2026 yoga days and times are TBD

OBX Farmers Markets

Farmers markets on the Outer Banks offer way more than local produce. Local artisans are on hand with their locally-made goods for sale. Find a unique souvenir from your OBX vacation this year, or simply enjoy browsing all that the markets have to offer on a sunny day. Many local markets also offer food and live music.

Outer Banks Swinging Mullets

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Calling all baseball fans! The Outer Banks Swinging Mullets is a summer collegiate baseball team that plays home games at TowneBank OBX Park in Kill Devil Hills. The team typically plays two to three games weekly in Kill Devil Hills at their home field. Grab an early dinner and head to the ballfield to celebrate the traditions of America’s pastime, right here on the Outer Banks.
