We’ve made it to June, we did it y’all! That glorious time of the year when the days are long, the sun is out, and the ocean water is warm, around 75°. The average high temperature on the Outer Banks in June is 83° and the average low temperature is 69° – downright perfect summer weather. Perhaps best of all, family vacations are in full swing! While we know the beach is likely to be #1 on your vacation to-do list, we can’t help but gush over all the fun activities OBX has to offer this month! Festival Fun

June on the Outer Banks is a time of outdoor celebrations! Check out these fantastic festivals happening on the island this month.

Dare Day Festival

June 1st, 2024 | 11:00 am – 6:00 pm | Downtown Manteo

A family-friendly annual event on the Outer Banks, enjoy food vendors, live music, live entertainment, and local craft vendors. Kids will love the kids zone, which includes rides, an obstacle course, and fun activities. The charm of Downtown Manteo on the waterfront will be on full display.

Rock the Cape Festival

June 6th & 7th, 2024 | 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm | Kitty Hawk Kites – Waves Village

A festival celebrating the visual and performing arts on Hatteras Island. Enjoy an afternoon of art and live music at Kitty Hawk Kites Waves Village Watersports Resort, located in Rodanthe at milepost 40, on Thursday, June 6th. Rock The Cape is hosting Friday Arts on the Island, a First Friday tour of Hatteras Island galleries, on Friday, June 7th.

Sunset Festival

Mondays through Fridays, June 10th – 28th, 2024 | 7:00 pm – sunset | Kitty Hawk Kites at Jockey’s Ridge Crossing in Nags Head

Kitty Hawk Kites hosts a free Sunset Festival at their Jockey’s Ridge Crossing location each week, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 pm until sunset. Each day of the week features a different theme or activity, with a gorgeous sunset to watch at the end of the evening.

Rogallo Kite Festival

June 14th & 15th, 2024 | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm | Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head

Join Kitty Hawk Kites for the 42nd Annual Rogallo Kite Festival to celebrate NASA scientist and inventor of the flexible wing, Francis Rogallo, and his many accomplishments. The event will feature a sky full of kites and activities for the whole family!

Outer Banks Rum Festival

June 15th, 2024 | 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm | The Pavilion at Pirate’s Cove Marina

Calling all rum drinkers, rum aficionados, and rum lovers! Learn more about rum, sample a wide selection of eclectic rums, and enjoy food provided by local restaurants at this fun event. Live music and curated vendors will also be onsite. The Outer Banks Rum Festival is a fundraising event to support the Beach Food Pantry. This event is for ages 21 and up only.

Under the Oaks Arts Festival

June 18th & 19th, 2024 | 10:00 am – 5:00 pm | Historic Corolla Park

This annual festival, held on the beautiful grounds of the Whalehead Club, brings together a collection of talented artists who will share their paintings and prints, photography, pottery, jewelry, woodworks, and much more. Come shop and enjoy the views over the Currituck Sound.

A Tee-Rific Time

As you pass waterfalls, pirate ships, and dinosaurs, you may notice a theme along the Outer Banks. — We LOVE mini golf! This family-friendly pastime is a great way to switch things up during your vacation while spending quality time together. With exciting courses in Corolla, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head, you’re never far from fun! OBX even has an indoor golf simulator option for rainy days. Although geared towards older kids and adults, Turf’s Up is a unique sports experience providing hours of entertainment.

Nocturnal Nature

You’ve been at the beach all day and the sun is starting to set, but maybe you’re not quite ready to leave. We’ve got one great reason for y’all to stay. — Ghost crabbing! Ghost crabs are aptly named for their ability to blend into the sand and for their nocturnal habits. A fun activity for the whole family, ghost crab hunting only requires a flashlight and a bit of patience. Although we call it “hunting,” ghost crabbing is simply standing still and watching as the tiny creatures emerge from their holes along the shoreline. If you’re new to ghost crabbing and would like some guidance, consider a ghost crab tour with Ghost Crab Quest. All equipment is provided for each tour and everyone in your group will love the fun ghost crab facts you learn from the knowledgeable guides. America’s First Mystery

This must-see production is back for another season! Celebrating the history of the first English colony on Roanoke Island, The Lost Colony is the longest-running outdoor symphonic drama in the entire nation. The production runs during summer evenings at Waterside Theatre, an outdoor soundfront theater on Roanoke Island. A few years ago, we joined Director Jeff Whiting for a behind-the-scenes look at The Lost Colony.

Namaste At The Beach

Didn’t think you could be any more relaxed on your OBX vacation? Try becoming one with nature by way of a yoga class! With weekly classes across the Outer Banks, we love to start our mornings stretching and breathing in the fresh ocean air. There are several places to do yoga on the Outer Banks,  and the following seasonal outdoor yoga classes are open to all skill levels and free!

OBX Farmers Markets

Farmers markets on the Outer Banks offer way more than local produce. Local artisans are on hand with their locally-made goods for sale. Find a unique souvenir from your OBX vacation this year, or simply enjoy browsing all that the markets have to offer on a sunny day. Many local markets also offer food and live music.

Enjoy Live Music During Your Vacation

During the summer months, the Outer Banks has a wide variety of live music events available.
