Outer Banks Golf: Sea Scape Golf Links

Presented By Katherine Schuster

Sea Scape Golf Links

Sea Scape Golf Links is a classic Outer Banks links-style golf course located near Milepost 3 in historic Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

The moment you step foot on property make sure you stop, take a long deep breath and soak in the fresh salty air coming from the nearby Atlantic Ocean. On property, there are 18 unique link-style holes with some fun undulating bent grass greens protecting the hole, as well as a small putting practice area located just outside the pro shop, right next to the cart barn.

Katherine’s personal overview of the course:

One of the many beauties that Sea Scape has to offer is the fact that everyday brings something new and exciting to the table. One day the refreshing ocean breeze can make a long par 5 reachable in two giving you a good look for eagle or, on the other hand can make a short par 4 barely reachable and will give you a run for your money. Every hole on Sea Scape’s property has a one of a kind design that you will not be able to find anywhere else on this island. I will admit that some local knowledge is better than going out there blindly. Even if you have never seen the course before, Sea Scape will still be tons of fun and will keep you on your toes. Personally, one of the things that I love about this course is that it has the ability to test the patience of the golfer and it shows you what you’re made of. Whether you are a scratch golfer or a 20+ handicapper, Sea Scape will have you wanting to come back.

When you go into the Pro Shop to check into your round, you are greeted with friendly faces. The staff at Sea Scape do a wonderful job accommodating your needs to make you have the best experience possible. Sea Scape’s PGA professional, Dan O’Boyle, is available for lessons and has done a lot to grow the game of golf in the Outer Banks by working with junior golfers over the years. Be sure to visit him in his well stocked pro shop where you can purchase some sweet swag to represent the OBX at your local course.

Sea Scape is a par 72 and is open to the public year round. Most of the fairways are lined with sandy waste areas that bring the links-style golf course to life. The higher handicapper might be going on a few Easter egg hunts during their round. Don’t let this intimidate you because during the egg hunt, you might be able to spot yourself an extra ball or two and one of them might be my Titleist Pro-V1! Sea Scape has some of the best greens on the island. Obviously the speed of the greens change from day to day, but for the most part they roll at a comfortable speed – not too fast, and not too slow. In my opinion, I believe that Sea Scape has some of the best Par-3’s on the Outer Banks. They are not only beautiful but they are also a ton of fun. Personally, my favorite par 3 is hole nine. It’s a short par 3 down the sand dune with a large area to land the ball on the green. This hole is a great opportunity for a circle on your scorecard.

Sea Scape is also home to the one and only Sandtrap Tavern which is an excellent place to sit and enjoy a meal with the family or with your fellow golf buddies after your round. Sandtrap Tavern is located in the clubhouse overlooking the first hole which gives you the itching sensation to go hit the links and have a great time on the course. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Personally, I am a huge fan of their eggs benedict.

Katherine and some of her Twiddy family!

Over the summer, I had the privilege to play Sea Scape with some of my Twiddy family before leaving for my junior year of college, and we had a wonderful time! We played nine holes, shared many laughs, and created memories that will last a lifetime.

Sea Scape is a great place to play and have some fun while visiting the Outer Banks. Another great feature that Sea Scape has to offer is that it is conveniently located right across the highway to a very nice beach access on Eckner Street. So right after your round make sure to stop by and soak in some sun.
