Jockey’s Ridge State Park

The most active sand dune system in the eastern U.S. is Jockey’s Ridge, located in Nags Head. The giant sand dunes are a sight to behold, and there are many activities available on and around the dunes. Hike at your own pace, either up the dunes or at the base of the dunes near the visitor’s center. Book a hang gliding lesson with Kitty Hawk Kites and fly above the dunes. If you’re looking for a place for the kids to burn some energy, this is your spot.

Jennette’s Pier

Part fishing pier, part educational facility, part aquarium, Jennette’s Pier has a lot of experiences to offer. The sprawling facility is family-friendly and gives visitors an up-close look at several species of fish swimming around in the aquarium tank in the lobby. Outside on the concrete pier, there are large wind turbines that provide renewable, clean energy to power the facility. The pier offers a large parking lot and bathhouse with easy access to the beach. Fishing from the pier is also available year-round.
