A Duo Worth Following

Father/son duo open a new restaurant at Oregon Inlet

Over the years Mac Buben has built an extraordinary catering business under the name SEA CHEF.

He has served large groups in their homes and catered events that are still vivid in the minds of those that were present.

Sea Chef Oregon Inlet

In 2024, he has had an opportunity to do something quite different.  It is certainly worthy of your attention and time. Mac and his father, Jeffrey Buben, have opened Sea Chef Dockside Kitchen at Oregon Inlet. This is a very informal and fun place serving imaginative and very fresh seafood.

It gives them a chance to cook together, to be creative and to always expand their food vision. The menu includes shrimp burgers, baked oysters, and fish sandwiches that reimagine each ingredient.

NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island

We should be frank about the distance to Oregon Inlet. The trip from Corolla takes an hour and a half. The trip to from Duck is probably an hour. So, it isn’t a quick place to grab lunch. A trip to Oregon Inlet is an adventure that might include seeing the charter boats come in with their catches of the day. For most people that is a worthwhile experience. It might also be combined with a trip to the Aquarium in Manteo. The Bodie Island Lighthouse is on the way there.

Their new place overlooks the marina and has an outdoor deck with umbrellas.

Sea Chef Dockside Kitchen also has a large, private dining room where they will also be able to host large groups and host special events.

It is a new and evolving venue that they have labored mightily to open. It combines their love of food and local  seafood resources. The chefs are keenly aware of the best local oysters, shrimp and fish.
