OBX Corporate Retreat: Adswerve’s Technical Bootcamp with Twiddy

The Outer Banks is one of North America’s best corporate retreat locations, as recently discovered by Adswerve, an esteemed data, media, and tech consultancy. Their corporate retreat featured a harmonious blend of work, recreation, exploration, and philanthropy. Twiddy & Company team members regularly work closely with Adswerve consultants, and the Outer Banks was the perfect place to gather and collaborate

Traveling to the Outer Banks of North Carolina

Adswerve has offices in Denver and Seattle; however, it is a virtual-first workplace with team members worldwide. Team members are in clustered locations such as New York, Chicago, Portland, San Diego, Salt Lake City, Austin, Dallas, Miami, Edmonton, and South Africa. The Outer Banks’ central location on the east coast of the U.S. proved to be an ideal corporate retreat venue, accessible to Adswerve team members from various locations.

How Adswerve Chose an OBX Vacation Home for their Corporate Retreat

The Adswerve team stayed at Sound to Sea Beach Club on the oceanfront in Corolla. The lavish home includes over 12,000 square feet of living space, featuring a careful balance of personal space to retreat to and gathering areas. Each of the 16 bedrooms features an ensuite bathroom, providing every team member with personal space. The home’s common areas effortlessly flow from one room to the next.

EC3 parking

Parking is abundant, as the driveway is large enough to accommodate the entire group’s rental vehicles. The home is equipped with an elevator, which was a huge help when bringing luggage, equipment, and groceries into the home. The home’s wifi capacity was on par with other corporate retreat venues, and it allowed team members who could not join the event onsite to join remotely from other areas of the world.

Adswerve EC3 moonrise

Many Adswerve team members who attended the retreat had never visited the Outer Banks. Sound to Sea Beach Club’s distinctive location offers views of both the ocean and the sound, allowing the team to watch the sunrise over the ocean in the morning and the sunset on the sound in the evening. The corporate retreat attendees were treated to a moonrise over the ocean during their stay.

Adswerve’s Corporate Retreat Structure

The goal of Adswerve’s stay on the Outer Banks was to work exclusively with Twiddy & Company team members to provide hands-on guidance, collaborate on projects, and offer custom training. In between working sessions, Adswerve had the opportunity to strengthen bonds between their team members via curated fun activities, exploring the area, and giving back to the Outer Banks community.

Work: Team Collaboration

On the third floor, the home’s great room offered plenty of space and comfortable seating for the entire team to gather, with a stunning view of the ocean in the background.

Across the room, the extra-large dining table was an excellent place to gather for work meetings, teambuilding activities, and enjoying meals together. There was plenty of space for Twiddy team members to join Adswerve at the home for various meetings and presentations.

In addition, the common areas throughout the home, like the theater room, were utilized for breakout work sessions.

Recreation: Team Building Activities

Adswerve took advantage of the amenities offered at Sound to Sea Beach Club and planned many of the retreat’s recreational activities there.

In the rec room on the ground floor of the home, team members played arcade games, shuffleboard, and pool.

When the theater room was not being used for breakout sessions, team members could relax in the reclining chairs and watch a soccer match.

The pub at Sound to Sea Beach Club was also a popular place for the team to gather during leisure time.

The home’s private walkway to the beach made spending time by the ocean easy. The Adswerve team took many walks down the beach, and one of their fun activities was a crab crawl race on the beach.

Exploring the Outer Banks

When venturing out from their corporate retreat venue on the Outer Banks, the Adswerve team got closer to nature.

They hiked the trails at nearby Pine Island Audubon Sanctuary, observing many coastal birds and small mammals in their natural habitat.

The Wright Brothers National Memorial was a favorite place to visit, as they strolled up big Kill Devil Hill to the monument and learned more about the famous first flight that occurred on the site over a century ago.

One brave Adswerve team member grabbed a surfboard and jumped into the chilly Atlantic Ocean in early March.

Meals: Dining Together Onsite

The main and catering kitchens were both utilized during Adswerve’s stay. The catering kitchen allowed for meals to be prepared for the entire group as working sessions were in progress right outside of the doors. Abundant counter space in the main kitchen enabled efficient self-service at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Adswerve team members used the main kitchen to let their creativity flow in an Iron Chef-like competition. The team that created the most exceptional dish won bragging rights.

Philanthropy: Giving Back to the Outer Banks

Adswerve team members wished to give back to the Outer Banks community as part of their corporate retreat on the Outer Banks. They helped beautify Corolla by cleaning up litter from the sides of the road. The specific 4-mile section of Route 12 that they cleaned up is normally Twiddy & Company’s responsibility as part of the Adopt A Highway program.
