Historic Corolla Village
Many years ago, Native Americans on the Currituck mainland referred to the northern portion of the Outer Banks as “Currituck,” meaning “land of the wild goose.” Originally used as their hunting and fishing grounds for millions of ducks and geese flying south each fall, the village was later home to a bustling community centered around the Jones Hill Lifesaving Station.
By the mid-1970s, Historic Corolla Village was in disrepair. Doug and Sharon Twiddy tirelessly restored many of the village’s buildings. In the present day, Historic Corolla Village includes many structures with a rich history of coastal living.
