Life as an Intern

Imagine packing your bags and heading to the Outer Banks for a summer long vacation and then coming out of it being able to say it was the best summer of your life.

Imagine packing your bags and heading to the Outer Banks for a summer-long vacation. I’ve been vacationing in the Outer Banks for years, but once was just a week has turned into three months of living with complete strangers turned best friends, becoming a highlight each year. Life as a Twiddy intern is just that and more. They say the people make the place, and the lasting experience that Twiddy has given me is immeasurable.

About Twiddy Internship Training

I found Twiddy Internships in 2016 when my older brother found the opportunity through his college job fair. During my family’s trip to see him, I got a glimpse of the sweet Outer Banks living. During this time, the internship team was less than 15 students; today it is double that amount.

When I was at Penn State, I found that Twiddy was hiring for their summer 2023 season and took the opportunity to apply to the Guest Services team. My best advice is to jump in with an open mind, eagerness to learn, and the expectation of the best summer ever.

From day one, I was thrown into the inner workings of what makes Twiddy so successful. Over the first few weeks, I developed the attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills needed to thrive in the office. I was given extensive walk-throughs on information, full-time employee shadowing, and home visits to prepare me for the summer.

I was given continuous feedback to help me grow professionally. I’ve always been a people person, and guest services became a place where I would wake up excited to go to work every single morning.

I transferred to the marketing team for my second summer, where I’ve been able to utilize content creation and storytelling for our guests and owners. I’ve loved the creative freedom marketing has given me, from being able to assist with interviews with our Congressman to exciting campaigns.

Interns are assigned to various departments in the office. You’ll be greeted by Guest Services interns at the front desk or over the phone. Owner Services interns will communicate with our homeowners. Field Tech interns have the most guest-facing interactions out of the departments and will visit your home for any home-related issues and assistance. Zone Support interns are the anchor to the office and communicate with field techs, vendors, and homeowners.

What Twiddy Interns Do On Our Day Off

Outside of the office, I can be found enjoying everything the Outer Banks offers. I have days off with specific interns and can be spotted surfing at the beach, eating home-cooked dinners, and attending local karaoke nights. When I’m looking for an adventure, I love visiting the 4×4 beaches, wandering through the towns of Kitty Hawk and Nags Head, and exploring all the magic in the Outer Banks. My days off have given me the best memories and even strengthened the intern communication at work.

During the weekends, it’s all hands on deck. I’m in the field as a photographer assistant and inspector for the Home Services team. My responsibilities include ensuring the homes are up to date in cleanliness and safety for arriving guests. It’s a great perspective of how vacationers will see their home upon first impression.

How to Apply

The Twiddy team and internship experience have made it an easy decision for my friends and me to return 2-3 years in a row and even become full-time employees. I’ve become so close with them that college and reunion beach trips have become annual, giving me some of my best friends for life that feel like family. It’s the people and the place, and I’m so grateful to Twiddy for giving me the best three summers of my life.
