Carolina Dunes: Your Outer Banks Escape

Peaceful, Spacious, and Steps from the beach

Welcome to Carolina Dunes!

This Duck community offers space and tranquility during your next family getaway. With a variety of 3 to 7-bedroom homes, options range from oceanfront to soundfront properties. The community provides shared access to the sound, as well as multiple beach access points. Shopping, dining, and activities are a short drive or bike ride away. Community beach walkways are also within walking or biking distance.

What sets Carolina Dunes Apart?

Carolina Dunes lies north of Duck but is close to the conveniences in the center of town, making this neighborhood ideal for those seeking a quieter, more relaxed Outer Banks vacation. Homes in this neighborhood enjoy larger, more spread-out lots than many surrounding communities, offering added privacy and a quiet, residential feel. While it’s tucked away from the busier parts of Duck, it’s still just a short bike ride or drive to the town’s shops, dining, and attractions.

What truly makes Carolina Dunes unique is its access to both the Atlantic Ocean and the Currituck Sound. Multiple community beach walkways make getting to the ocean easy, while a private sound access area allows residents and guests to enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding, crabbing, or simply watching the sunset.

Community Amenities and Beach Access

Community access to the sound is available via one access point on Duck Rd at the end of Canvasback Drive. There is a pier for simple fishing and crabbing. Community access does not have a boat ramp, and is inaccessible for the launching of boats.

All community access to the beach is available via three access points on Buffell Head Road. Access #1 is between Old Squaw Drive and Sprigtail Drive. Access #2 is between Canvasback Drive and Wood Duck Drive. Access #3 is between Pintail Drive and Widgeon Drive.

Shopping and Dining in Duck

Carolina Dunes is a short drive away from coastal flavors of restaurants and shopping in the center of Duck. The area is known for its exceptional culinary scene, offering everything from upscale waterfront dining to casual coastal eats. Just a stone’s throw from the sound, The Waterfront Shops offer scenic views and a lovely boardwalk lined with unique stores and galleries. Here, you can shop for art, beachwear, and OBX souvenirs while enjoying the breeze off the water. Scarborough Faire is the perfect place to spend an afternoon browsing artisan gifts, handmade jewelry, coastal décor, and charming fashion finds.
