Move over Nicholas Sparks, you’ve got some competition. There’s a new author in town writing about the Outer Banks and her name is Jessica Degarmo. Her new book, “How to Meet a Guy at the Supermarket”, is hot off the presses and is now available on the Amazon and Barnes and Noble websites. If you love the Outer Banks, romance, and a good read…don’t miss this one!
Jessica first came to the Outer Banks in 2008 and 2009 and was inspired by the scenic beauty of the area. She decided to write a story about this beautiful area in January 2010, and by November…voila, “How to Meet a Guy at the Supermarket” was born! Here at Twiddy & Company, we’re proud to call this rising author a friend and guest of ours.
“How to Meet a Guy at the Supermarket” is a zany look at dating in a tourist location, and the lengths a single journalist will go to in order to find love. Quinn is thirty-two, lonely and slightly eccentric. She has an epiphany in the Grocery King Supermarket one day and decides she’ll find the man of her dreams in the aisles of the store. Cue the mayhem! Will Quinn find love or sour grapes at the grocery store?
When asked about her inspiration for the book, Degarmo said, “The Outer Banks is like no other place on earth. The beaches are gorgeous, the
lighthouses add just the right nautical flair, and the people are phenomenal! It’s just a little slice of paradise. I decided to use real locations in the Outer Banks as scenes in my book in tribute. Readers will find Salty Paws Biscuits, Corolla Brew Pub, Lovie’s Kitchen Table, Rundown Café and Tsunami Bar, Sooey’s, and the Outer Banks Brewing Station. The owners of those establishments were gracious enough to lend their businesses to Quinn for a while, and I’m grateful for their generosity. The Grocery King Supermarket is modeled after the Food Lion. We spent a lot of time there while we were on vacation!”
Be sure to pick up this light, beach-read for your next vacation and enjoy it while experiencing the Outer Banks first-hand!
Great interview/review and Jess I can see why you love it there. Dreamy beaches by the looks of it.

What a delightful post, and a marvelous book. I have the pleasure of having read Jessica Degarmo’s work.
I am an Australian, and we are rather accustomed to beautiful locations, however Jessica’s book opened my eyes to a stunning place, filled with marvelous folks and caused me to add The Outer Banks to my must visit list next time I venture overseas.
Great post, great book, great place.
